This summer, local photonics companies Aurrion & Freedom Photonics sponsored a beach BBQ with the Photonics Society! Both of these companies were founded by UCSB alumni, and are on the forefront of cutting edge photonics research. Four local companies were represented, along with UCSB research groups from the physics, electrical engineering and materials departments. Free food & drink & a beach barbecue were enjoyed by the families and children of these local photonics researchers, with more than 50 people attending in total. Our first outreach event was highly successful! Of course, a Goleta beach barbecue rarely fails. About 20 people attended, the president grilled, the vice lectured and Professor Bowers came by to say hi and enjoy the festivities. |
